Borrowing privileges vary depending on the user.

All current USC students, faculty, and staff have a check-out limit of 200 books and the following loan periods.

  • Undergraduates:   4 weeks
  • Graduates, Faculty, or Staff:   end of current semester

Alumni and retired staff or faculty typically have a limit of 40 books and the following loan periods:

  • Alumni:   4 weeks
  • Retired staff/faculty:   either 4 weeks or semester loans (depending on emeriti status)

DVDs and other materials (reserves, reference, etc.) may have shorter loan periods. If you have any questions on how long you may borrow a particular book, please consult with library staff at the circulation desk.

Non-USC users may receive borrowing privileges if they fall into certain categories. These categories can include Friends of the Libraries donors, sponsored guests, visiting scholars, summer program participants, high school students, individual or corporate fee borrowers, and approved members of affiliated institutions. Please consult the NON-USC tab of the Access & Borrowing Policies page for more information about these account types.
